The History of The Hobby Horse

Steeped in history, The Hobby Horse, built in the 1890’s, was originally part of the opulent Hotel Metropole where the Maharajas of the day would reside whilst in the area to play polo on the picturesque Dunster Lawns. Polo ponies would be stabled in the mews to the rear, and the Metropole Garage beyond was home to their prestigious collections of Lagonda motor vehicles. Not only Indian Kings, but many local people will remember The Hobby Horse, with its Victorian ballroom, as the place to be seen.
